Canonical Correspondence Analysis - Qualitative variable

By Sophie | Dec 31, 2017 08:04AM CET

I have a dataset of reef fish species that I would like to analyse with CCA. On the left hand column, I have the reef sites that they were surveyed (Site 1, 2...10). The other columns are the family of fish species, eg Arripidae. The abundance (or frequency) of those fish surveyed at the sites have been entered in the cells below. My descriptive variables on the right-hand side, including values for sea surface temperature and primary productivity. However, some of the sites that have been surveyed are marine protected areas (MPAs) or open water (OW) zones with no protection status. How can I include this qualitative descriptive variable into my CCA, as there are no numerical values? For example, Site 1 has a depth of 2.5m, primary productivity of 0.05 and a sea surface temperature of 18 degrees. How can I also include it's protection status (MPA or OW)?

Many thanks!

Hello,

Simply introduce the Protection status in the Qualitative explanatory variables field :)

Best,
