Range defined by whiskers in Box Plot

By Daniel | Mar 19, 2018 08:23PM CET

Hello, I am using box and whisker diagram to define some data. It happens that after reviewing, I got outliers outside the box and whiskers for the diagrams. I think using the Interquartile range will limit my data, so I want to use the Range defined by the whiskers in the diagram so in this way I am considering a bigger range without including the outliers. Is there a way to get the Whisker range in XLSTAT? Or can someone share a formula to get it with the information provided by XLSTAT description data? Thanks.

Hello Daniel,
You will find below the formulas of the XLSTAT whiskers for boxplots:
Lower whisker: Linf = X(i) such that {X(i) – [Q1 – 1.5 (Q3 – Q1)]} is minimum and X(i) ≥ Q1 – 1.5 (Q3 – Q1).
Upper whisker: Lsup = X(i) such that {X(i) – [Q3 + 1.5 (Q3 – Q1)]} is minimum and X(i) ≤ Q3 + 1.5 (Q3 – Q1).
